History of the Kramer Brothers Line
In early 1895, George H. Kramer, in partnership with his brothers Henry and Joseph established the Kramer Brothers Foundry in Dayton, Ohio. Initially the gray iron foundry produced parts for cooking stoves, heating stoves and coal furnaces. Of course, this type work saw seasonal fluctuations.
To keep the factory productive in the spring and summer, the Kramer Brothers developed a line of cast iron floral urns, lawn settees, chairs, and ornamental accessories. Many of the items were imported from European foundries and patterns were duplicated for production by the Kramer Brothers.
Mr. Bud Loges, a grandson of George Kramer was the latest in the long line of the Kramer family to operate the business. Mr. Loges recently retired after 50 plus years with the company.
Talladega Foundry and Machine Co., Inc. Takes on the Kramer Brothers Line.
Unfortunately, in the 1950's, production of the Kramer Brothers ornamental line was discontinued. Over the next serval years, many of the Kramer Brothers' patterns would become lost. With the help of several companies and individuals, the lost and destroyed urn patterns were reproduced using the original Kramer Brother pieces for patterns. Luckily, most of the patterns of the handles, settees, chairs, and ornaments were saved.
In the summer of 2000, Talladega Foundry and Machine Company, Inc. acquired the exclusive rights to produce ornamental parts using the original Kramer Brother patterns. Talladega Foundry has since been actively producing urns, furniture, and accessories for various customers in all areas of the United States.
